Microsoft Publisher Reaches End of Life October 2026
Microsoft Publisher will reach end of life in October 2026. Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer be able to open or edit Publisher files in the app after its removal, while perpetual-license users can continue using Publisher, though support will end on October 13, 2026 for Office LTSC 2021 and Consumer Office 2021.
Microsoft recommends converting files to PDF for viewing or Word for editing before October 1, 2026. Word and PowerPoint are suggested alternatives for many common publishing tasks; Affinity may also be able to import Publisher files.

What can my organization do?
Microsoft recommends Word and PowerPoint as alternatives. Which one fits best depends on what you’re creating—for example, PowerPoint for banners and posters, and Word or PowerPoint for brochures and business cards. You can also convert your Publisher files to another format. Save them as PDFs to preserve them for viewing. If you need to edit the content later, you can convert the PDF to Word, though the layout may change. For many files, Microsoft suggests using a PowerShell script to automate PDF export.
